Opening of the Venus Line expands the scale of the resort city

The city of Chino has been nationally well known as a resort, blessed with a natural environment surrounding Mt. Yatsugatake as well as an abundant ancient cultural heritage from the Jomon period (circa 10,000B.C. - circa 300B.C.). In 1964, Yatsugatake, Tateshina and Lake Shirakaba-ko were designated as Yatsugatake Chushin-kogen National Park. The roads were organized, cottages went on sale, and the golf courses were constructed. In 1967, the construction of Yokotake ropeway, traveling between Sanroku station and Yokotake-tsuboniwa station was completed. After the opening of the Venus Line, Tateshina-kogen highlands, Lake Shirakaba-ko and Kirigamine were integrated into one big resort. About 5 million people visit this place annually to get away from heat in summer, to see mountain flowers in spring and autumn, and to enjoy skiing in winter.
