At the foot of the peaks of the North Alps Shirouma is Hakuba Village. It is famous for skiing and sightseeing spots that are blessed with rich snow and a beautiful mountain view. There are 7 ski grounds in Hakuba, all with different characteristics, thereby Hakuba Station is constantly crowded with many young skiers and snow boarders in winter. In summer, flowers of different colors bloom along the creek.
The symbol of Hakuba village is the Ski Jumping Stadium located at Hakuba Happo Ski Resort, which was completed in November 1992. This is the first ever ski jumping board in Japan for both large and normal hill. This will be the venue for Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined in the 1998 Nagano Olympics. As Alpine Skiing and Cross-Country Skiing competitions will also be held here in Hakuba, peripheral facilities and roads are now under construction.
