Summer is the best season for North Alps mountain climbing, when hikers walk up the slope covered with a thin layer of snow, and the sun blazing down the back. This is when the JR Oito Line's Hotaka Station becomes crowded with many alpinists who carry big backpacks. There are several mountain routes starting at Hotaka station including a famous Hotaka Peaks route, known as Alps Ginza (meaning a busy place) passing through Mt. Tubakuro to Mt. Daitenjo, then to Mt. Jonen, finally to Mt.
Yarigatake. A dynamic panorama, unusual alpine plants, and the snowy valley are among the highlights during the course of climbing. Even if you have no experience of mountain climbing, don't hesitate to tackle it as there are some routes designed for beginners. For more advanced climbers, a route along the ridge of a mountain range would be interesting. A number of mountain huts are available in the area, which facilitates leisurely scheduling of mountain climbing in the North Alps.
