Okaya Silk Museum / Okaya Art and Archaeological Museum

Okaya enjoyed a booming era of silk through the Meiji (1868 - 1912), Taisho (1912 - 1926), and early Showa (1926 - 1989) periods. The Okaya Silk Museum exhibits its collection of valuable references such as machinery and literature used during the time. The Art and Archaeological Museum has exhibitions of works by Takei Takeo, an Okaya-born artist who drew prints for children. Also among the exhibit are clay and stone pottery from the Jomon (circa 10,000 B.C. - circa 300 B.C.) through the Kofun period (circa 300 - circa 600) found in the Okaya area.
