Okaya is located along Shinshu's largest lake Suwa-ko with 16 kilometer circumference and 13.3 square kilometers surface area. Lake Suwa-ko has been enjoyed by local citizens as a symbol of home and a place to relax. Cruise ships, boats as well as windsurfers and other marine-sport lovers take advantage of the beautiful body of water. Swans gather at the lake at the end of fall season every year. Okaya Lakeside Park is located along Kamaguchi Suimon Gate where Lake Suwa-ko and Tenryu-gawa River meet and flow into the Pacific Ocean. The park was set up to commemorate the wedding of the crown prince. The 55-meter high fountain on the lake that is lit up at night and the beautiful cherry blossoms that bloom in the spring greet the visitors.
