Hatchomiso-no-sato

Hatchomiso-no-sato (The Hometown of the Hatcho Miso)

You can actually go inside the warehouse where the Hatcho miso is made. The warehouse, built in the Meiji period, has been transformed into a museum exhibiting with life-size dolls the miso-making process dating back to the Yedo period. Historical documents and material related to the Imperial household are also displayed in this museum. The miso has been used by the Imperial household for generations. You can buy various miso products in the shop.

Daiju-ji Temple

This is the guardian temple of the Matsudaira and the Ieyasu family, where altars of the generations of the respective families are kept. Also, there is a wooden statue of the 73-year old Ieyasu. To the south of the cemetery is the tahoto, a double-layered building, which was constructed by Ieyasu's grandfather Kiyoyasu. The first floor of this building is square, and the second floor is round, the roof is made of cypress bark. The Tahoto is said to be the most beautiful building in the Tokai region. From the third gate you can see the elegant Okazaki Castle to the south.

Itaya-cho, an Old Town 

This town, located on the old Tokaido, still retains its former face. The former second-hand shop with its wood-latticed windows and mezzanine floors and the geisha houses remind you of the town's colorful past. The old dance hall, called Sohryu, with its bright pink walls and gate, also reminds you of the early 50s.

Okazaki Park 

This park, spreading over 80,000 square meters around the Okazaki Castle, is known for its beautiful cherry blossoms. There is a Mikawa Samurai and Ieyasu Museum, which displays historical documents. There is a flower clock, a teahouse, a noh theatre, and a replica of Ieyasu dancing the noh dance (which is actually a clock.)
