Historic residences

Historic residences dot the city of Shiojiri.

The building known to have been constructed in the 17th century was once the home of the Komatsu family. The former Horiuchi residence is characterized by the typical honmune-zukuri architecture with large gables (interior is open to the public - requires reservation / 0263-52-0311). Inscribed on the wooden doors and walls on the second floor of the former Shimazaki residence are beautiful pictures of cherry blossoms and cranes.

Donguri House offers wild plant color dyes

You can try wild plant dye craft at the Donguri House located in the Hiraide History Park. Wild plants in the area are picked and used for dying fabric and yarn. This method has been used since ancient times. Different seasons and plant types create the various colors of nature. The material determines the cost.
