Toyama

A modern city with castle town remnants from the past

Ferry boats glide across the Matsu-kawa River which runs through the city center. The Toyama Castle tower stands over the main street of Joshi Odori. And the glass version of the Tateyama mountain ranges is represented in the modern building that houses the Municipal Office of Toyama. These sights are part of what symbolizes the modern city Toyama which is blessed with its access to the sea, the mountains, and a beautiful natural environment.
Toyama has been famous for its pharmaceutical history of 300 years. Toyama's distribution of goods and information has been accepted throughout Japan since the time when traveling was regulated. This is owed to the serious nature of the people in Toyama. The city has also served as the gateway to the Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route and Kurobe Gorge.
