When driving along Nagano Jidoshado from Toyoshina station headed for Toyoshina Interchange, one will run into the clear waters of Saigawa River. This stream stretches from Matsumoto to Nagano, its steady flow meandering through the mountain ranges. Along the stream headed towards Nagano, there is an area where whistling swans have recently been making their stopovers.
This has become the prefecture's largest winter hibernation spot for swans. The birds flying in from their long journey, resting their wings at this spot during the cold season is now a typical winter scene in Toyoshina. The bright blue of the sky and the Saigawa River and the shining white of the swans and the snow covered Alps in the distance represent the beautiful contrast of Toyoshina's winter colors.
