In this annual event held around Golden Week (May), river boats travel elegantly along the Kurashiki-gawa River while on the street, the Kan Kan Bazaar selling hand made jewelry and antique goods is held. Suinkyo dancing, in which people dance wearing masks of old men and old women, is another attraction.
A Kurashiki beauty contest, flee market, Tenryo-daiko (drum performance), and outdoor concert are the attractions carried on along Daikan-bayashi (folk tune) background music. The most popular among those is Ade-mikoshi, in which a portable shrine is carried only by women. Those charming and energetic women, wrapping themselves with bleached cotton cloth, parade with high spirited shouts through the town.
This annual music festival is held for about 10 days. You can enjoy a variety of entertainment such as a concert by leading national and international musicians, outdoor concert by amateur performers, as well as some street performances. The kinds of music varies from classical, pop, folk music, to some unique Japanese music.
