Mori Ogai Memorial Museum, The Old Residence of Mori Ogai

Military doctor, novelist, critic, and translator Mori Ogai's life is introduced through films, panels, his remaining personal possessions and works. Adjacent to the museum is Mori Ogai's former residence where he lived until the age of 11.

Musee de Mori-juku

The former estate of Tsuwano clan's most powerful man has been converted into a museum. Exhibit includes paintings of local artists Nakao Sho and his wife Yoshiura Maya, western paintings, and ceramic ware.

Kamei Onko-kan

The Kamei family's second home bought after the establishment of the prefectural system (and abolition of the feudal system). The first floor has an exhibit of the Kamei family's heirloom weapons and jewels, and the second floor exhibit consists of dyed materials collected by the 13th generation feudal lord Korenori during his studies in Germany. Visitors can rest at the tea house overlooking the beautiful garden.

From Tsuwano station take the Iwami Kotsu Bus for Okugano. Get off at Shinbashi (7-min. ride) and walk 2 min.

Katsushika Hokusai Museum of Art

The museum displays wood block prints, wood block, and hand drawn pictures of the Yedo period (1603 - 1867) Ukiyoe wood block artist Katsushika Hokusai. The museum was established based on the fact that the first print of the "Hokusai Manga" (Hokusai Sketch Book) was discovered in Tsuwano.

Tsuwano Folk Museum Jingasa

The collection of 1,000 items owned by a local historian Irie Takeo consists of weapons, antique daily items, antique art pieces, and folk objects. Some of this museum's interesting displays include hiking equipment and commercial signs from the Yedo period (1603 - 1867).
