Yamaguchi Tanabata Chochin FestivalIn this Festival of Weavers, another major summer night festival, more than 100,000 paper lanterns light the town. The festival is held on August 6 and 7. Paper lanterns are lit as darkness falls, and the festival continues for 2 hours that the candles in the lantern are burning. The big lanterns used by the Ouchi family to honor their ancestors have evolved to the portable paper lantern used by all the citizens. |

Yamaguchi Gion FestivalThis is the biggest festival of Yamaguchi City and is held from July 20 to 27 every year. The 600-year-old festival, starts with a sacred stork dance. This marks the summer of Yamaguchi. |
Yuda Hot Spring FestivalThis festival celebrates the discovery of the Yuda Hot Spring and is held on the first weekend of April. On this day, the mikoshis (portable shrines) parade throught the streets, inns are open to the public, and karaoke championships are held. In the evening, small children dressed in white costumes and wearing fox masks parade through the city holding torches. The old hot spring town comes alive during these two days. |
