Furano's original wine-cheese are manufactured at Furano Cheese Kobo (Cheese Factory)

Furano Cheese Kobo is located in Harunire Foods Park. There are 4 kinds of original cheese and butter. These are made from Furano's fresh milk. Wine cheddar, a type of British cheddar, is marbled with Furano's red wine. The combination of the two colors, red and white, creates a unique texture. Wine cheddar, which was originated under a partnership between Furano-shi and Rakuno Gakuen University, is very popular for its rich taste. The wine-cheddar cheeses account for 40% of their cheese manufacturing. Sepia, a type of Camembert, is also uniquely textured with a combination of black cheese (made from cuttlefish ink) on the inside and white cheese on the outside. There are exhibitions of dairy products and their history. You can visit the factory and try your hand at the "butter-making workshops" (you will need to make reservation for the tour one day in advance).

Wine is one of the specialties of Furano

The Furano Wine Factory is located at Budo-ga-oka Koen Park near the grape juice factory. Recently, people have been discovering how red wine is good for human body and how it can help prevent such ailments as heart disease and arteriosclerosis. Because of this, wine has become more popular and is now sold at more reasonable prices than it used to be. In 1972, Furano started producing their own wine, and it finally appeared on the market in 1978. Guided tours of this factory are available where you can observe their original wine-making process as they produce eight kinds of wine. Of course, you can taste samples of their wines, and you can even have them make your own original label for your wine bottle (a pair of red and white wines, or you can order up to a hundred pairs, it will take 3 weeks).
Admission: Free / Open everyday 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (November - April closed weekends and holidays).
