Tamahide
This is a restaurant of old standing which has been open since 1760. One of their specialties is chicken. As soon as the restaurant opens, you will see many people waiting for oyako-don (rice covered with seasoned eggs and chicken in a bowl). You will savor its combination of crispy chicken and sweetened soft eggs on top of rice (order oyako-don which is available until 1 p.m.). They also offer shyamo-nabe (a fighting cock cooked in a pot) and tori-kaiseki (a course dinner of chicken) at night.

This is a famous restaurant for beef cooking such as sukiyaki, shabushabu and steak. Their delicious beef is highly recommended. Since lunch time is until 3 p.m., you can take your time.

Hatsune
This is a very old Japanese sweet shop which has been open since 1837. They put a lot of effort into its cooking such as using red beans from Tokachi in Hokkaido and making rice cake in a stone mortar every morning for the sweet's base. This is a good place for you to take a break on a way back from Suiten-gu Shrine.

Homi-tei
They serve Western-style cooking in a traditional Japanese room. The building itself was designed with traditional Japanese architectural style even though their specialty has been Western cooking since 1933. Try their hayashi-rice or chicken-rice in the tatami-room with an alcove. Their boxed lunch at 1,450 yen is highly recommended.

Kotori
This is an udon (thick white noodles) restaurant which is located next to the Royal Park Hotel. You can suck their thick noodles from a soy sauce or sesame seasoned soup smoothly into your mouth in the traditional Japanese custom. Note that at noon time there will be a long line. They also offer fresh fish and various brews of local sake which are gathered from all over Japan at night.

This is a bakery which opens at 7 a.m. You will see a lot of bread which look to be made in the old-fashioned way. Since they have a parlor, you can eat their yakisoba-pan (chow mien covered bread) and croquette on the bread at the counter bar or at a table. You can also order an omelet and toast which they will cook right away.

Sakure
This Japanese-style restaurant offers mainly fresh fish. Makunouchi-bento (a boxed lunch with a variety and exquisitely arranged food) is 1,000 yen, sake-ikura don (salmon and salmon roe covered rice in a bowl) and negi-toro don (green leeks and raw tuna covered rice in a bowl) are both 1,200 yen each. Try their popular boxed lunch to go for only 700 yen.
