Mashiko-yaki Ceramic Ware

Mashiko-yaki, the world renowned earthenware which represents ceramic ware of the Kanto region, is characterized by its simplicity and warmth. Traditional Mashiko-yaki consists of brown works fired in firewood kilns and simple pots decorated with vermilion paint. Modern Mashiko-yaki is based on the traditional style but is more daring and creative. History of changes can be seen through the beautiful pieces. Today, utilitarian Mashiko-yaki ware are available at reasonable prices. Kiln tour visitors are troubled with too many choices.
