Foster "The sprit of Volunteer" by heartfelt interpretation
The Osaka SGG Club is short for the "Osaka Systematized Good-Will Guides Club". SGG volunteers do many international-related events such as interpreting for conferences, translating for foreigners' tour guide books, guiding for foreigners who are living in Japan or traveling, and planning home visits to Japanese families. The president of SGG, Mr. Watanabe, states that the goal of SGG is not only to help foreigners' with the difficulties of the Japanese language and culture, but also to improve the volunteers' knowledge of international relationships, foreign languages, geography and history. He believes that these improvements lead to and foster the Japanese spirit of the volunteers. Since Osaka was nominated as the host for the 2008 Olympics, it is time for SGG to be even more active in the future. He hopes that many people will take this opportunity to volunteer and participate in SGG's activities. There is a reputation of Mr. Watanabe's "Good Will" strategy in which the volunteers place other people before themselves.
The SGG is organized by 130 members. Information Centers are located in both OCAT in Namba and JR Osaka Station where visitors can learn about sightseeing, tour routes, transportation to other cities within Japan as well as other information. The Information Center staff mainly speak English but also provide assistance in other languages such as German, Chinese, Korean, Tagalog, Spanish, and Indonesian. Appointments can be made for speakers of other languages.
