Nakano-shima

Nakano-shima is a very small Island which is located between the Dojima-gawa and Tosabori-gawa Rivers. This area shows you the westernized buildings of late 19th and early 20th centuries. The photograph shown is Osaka Central Public Hall. On the eastern part of this island, there is a beautiful park which is surrounded by roses and greens. On the other hand, the area from Tosabori-gawa River to the southern part of the island is packed with business buildings.

Nakano-shima

Teki-juku (a private school)

Ogata Koan, a Dutch scholar and a doctor, established Teki-juku in 1838. Fukuzawa Yukichi, who was a genius and established Keio University, as well as other people who were very active in the late 18th and early 19th centuries also studied at this private school. Koan's library and their bedrooms still remained just as they were.
