There is a ruin of an old temple at the top of the Sasagatake Mountain that rises on the east of this watefall. There is a legend that in the morning of the New Years Day, a golden cock appears at the Akaike Pond of this ruin and annoounces good fortune for the new year, and thus this waterfall is called the Keimei-no-taki (Cockcrow Waterfall).
