Tsu Festival

Tsu Festival (October 9-11)

There are many festivals in Tsu, such as the Warrior's Parade and the Citizen's Dance Festival. The most popular festival is the traditional Chinese Descendant's Parade. In this 300-year-old festival, dancers dressed in traditional Chinese costumes and humorous masks dance through the streets beating gongs and blowing flutes. This exotic festival has been designated an intangible cultural property of Mie Prefecture.

Oshichiya (Seven Nights) Festival (January 9-16)

This is a festival of gratitude to the great monk Shinran Shonin. It is held for seven days and nights. Various open-air shops line the streets leading to Senjuji, the main temple of the Shinshu Takada sect. More than 100,000 worshippers gather for this festival.

The Yuki Shrine's Plum Festival (February and March)

From around the end of February, the drooping plums of the Yuki Shrine begin to blossom. Many visitors from outside the prefecture visit the shrine in March, when the flower is in full bloom.

The Yabuneri (Bamboo Bush) Parade (July 11)

This is a parade held during the summer festival of the Shirotsuka-cho Yagumo Shrine to commemorate the killing of the 8-necked dragon, Yamatano-orochi, by Prince Susano, the younger brother of the goddess Amaterasu-oomikami. This festival, held to ward off diseases, is very energetic.
