Bronze Handbell Museum

Bronze Handbell Museum, a Comprehensive Research Center

The handbells are still shrowded in deep mystery and this museum is a place of perpetual study, using personal computers and the latest mutivision techniques. You can also see artifacts (including replicas) of Shiga Prefecture other than the handbells found in Ohiwayama Hill. The Yayoi Forest History Park is next to the museum, where you can find four shaft-type ancient dwellings and one stilt-type warehouse. Walking through the park will make you feel as if you've taken a ride on a time machine.

The Ohiwayama Burial Mounds

The Ohiwayama Burial Mounds, Where the Ancient Leaders Sleep

There are eight ancient burial mounds in the Ohiwayama complex which include the Maruyama, Kabutoyama, and Kotobayama mounds. The first two mounds contained stone coffins but have been removed for research until 1998. At the Kotobayama mound a bronze handbell, said to have belonged to Queen Himiko, was uncovered.
