The Big Yokkkaichi Festival

This festival, held since 1964 on the first weekend of August (including either a Friday or a Monday), has become a popular summer event. A visitor may be able to enjoy drums and portable shrines stroll through the streets and the Dream Parade. On the last day, the traditional big whaling ship kujirabune and a big long-necked monster called ohnyudo stroll through the streets.

The Kenka (Fighting) Festival

This festival, held on the August 14th and 15th, is held to chase away the evil spirit using bells and drums and to welcome the good spirit. Villagers from all over Yokkaichi dressed in the costume of the village, try to storm into the shrine compounds. They are blocked by opposing villagemen resulting in a scuffle.

The Banko Festival

This festival held since 1962 on the second weekend of May, was started to publicize the Banko ceramics. During the festival, street merchants line the roads leading to the Banko Shrine. Many tourists visit Yokkaichi during this festival. During this period, you can buy these famous Banko ceramics at half price.
