Rokugatsu-to

Rokugatsu-to (July/ at inner city shrines and temples)

This is a typical poetic description of natural scenery of a summer night in Kagoshima. Rokugatsu-to, or lanterns are lit in the shrines and temples to pray for avoiding injuries and sickness all year around, as well as to pray for business success.


Ohara Festival (November 2 - 3/ Sanbashi-dori - Takamibaba)

Dancers wearing yukatas and flower hats parade on the city street along with folk tunes. This is the biggest festival within the prefecture with 20,000 dancers and 500,000 visitors.


Asa-ichi Market

Asa-ichi Market(Around Nishi-Kagoshima station)

Asa-ichi market, Kagoshima's kitchen since the post war period, is an all season event.
No sooner does the sun rise than the women come from nearby farming and fishing villages to sell fresh vegetables and sea food in the market.
This is a very special place to experience human communication and the Kagoshima dialect.
