Hanamaki's English Coast
A white coast line is exposed where Kitakami-gawa River and Sarugaishi-gawa River meet. Miyazawa Kenji named this area Hanamaki's English Coast since he thought that the white coast resembled England's Straits of Dover. Hanamaki's English Coast was Kenji's favorite place, and he brought many of his students here when he was teaching at the Agricultural School.
Polan Square
A flower garden and a garden dial are the features of Polan Square which is located down the road from Miyazawa Kenji Museum. Miyazawa designed the site based on a request by his Rasuchijin Association student. The plan was never followed through due to financial and technical difficulties of the time. The current garden was landscaped according to Miyazawa's plans and letters. The artistic distribution of vines, fruit, and flowers is another sign of Miyazawa's versatility.
